Equipment

There is a large amount of equipment in NICU. The picture below shows a typical Intensive Care Cot. Babies on the unit may not need all of this equipment and may have other more specialist needs. Many of the machines have alarms, which sound frequently. This is normal the monitors are very sensitive and the alarms are only to alert nurses to a change in the baby's condition. An alarm may also sound if a monitor becomes detached; this can easily happen if the baby moves.
