Many Doctors on NICU specialise in different areas of medicine. Below are simple descriptions of some of the most common specialisms in NICU.

Cardiologist Assesses and treats hearts and works with the cardiac (heart) surgeons
Clinical biochemist Analyses blood and tissue samples
Dermatologist Is a doctor who specialises in skin conditions
Dietician Is an expert in food and nutrition
Endocrinologist Is a doctor who specialises in the treatment of problems of glands and hormones
ENT surgeon Is a surgeon who specialises in surgery to the head and neck, particularly ears, nose and throat
Gastroenterologist Specialises in conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, including the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, liver, gall bladder and biliary system.
Neonatologist A specialist in the care of the newborn
Nephrologist A specialist in the treatment of kidney disease
Paediatric surgeon Is a surgeon who operates on children
Paediatrician A specialist in the care of children
Physiotherapist Looks after physical well being, particularly positioning, muscle and limb issues.
Plastic Surgeon Specialises in reducing scarring or disfigurement. In NICU this includes abnormalities that are present at birth such as cleft lips and palates and hands and finger problems.
Speech and language therapists Evaluates and treats communication disorders and swallowing problems
