Information
for new parents
 |
Your
baby being admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) can be a huge shock and the new and unexpected
things
happening
can
be
bewildering.
To help you in the first few days, we have produced this
printable page which has lots of information
you
might need. You may also like to look at our page "The
Early Days" which will give you an idea of what
happens on NICU. |
Telephone
number The
NICU telephone number is 0117 928 5275. Please feel able to
phone the Unit at anytime to talk to staff caring for your
baby.
When
can I see my baby?
Please
feel welcome on NICU at any time day or night. We want you
(both mother and father) to visit your baby as often as you can so
that you can get to know
each other. If you are not feeling strong enough soon after
the
birth, ask to be brought in a chair or bed.
What
do I do when I first visit? We
are on LEVEL D at
St Michael’s Hospital, Southwell Street, Bristol, BS2 8EG.
You
will find the lifts on
the left hand side at the rear of the main hospital reception
area. When you come out of the lift, turn right; there is a
sign above
the
corridor leading to NICU. At the door, ring
the security bell. We will
come and collect you and take you to your baby.
What
do I need to take with me? You
are advised to wear light clothing and to take off any extra
clothing, including dressing gowns, as the ward is very warm.
Initially,
we can provide everything that your baby needs (except you!).
It is not necessary to bring anything into hospital with you
but you may like to pack a small bag with:-
